One identity. All access control systems in sync.

AIM, the Advanced Identity Manager by Advancis, connects identities and access rights from several access control and IT systems. E&S Rose plans and implements AIM for you. Scroll through a day in the life of an identity.

01 Simply explained

What is AIM?

A product by Advancis

AIM (Advanced Identity Manager) is software from Advancis for access and identity management. It integrates several access control, identity and biometric systems into one platform and keeps every person’s rights in sync everywhere.Technical term: PIAM, Physical Identity and Access Management.

Often every access control system keeps its own list of people. New starters are entered several times. Leavers have to be removed from each system individually. That costs time and opens gaps.

AIM takes people and groups from one authoritative data source, such as Active Directory or Microsoft Entra ID, an HR or ERP system, visitor management, an access control system or AIM itself, and distributes them with card formats and card IDs to all connected systems. A change is made once and applies everywhere.

A leaver, recorded once, applies in all connected systems.

02 Positioning

Two products. Two tasks.

AIM and WinGuard both come from Advancis, but solve different problems. We assess them by their tasks and show where they complement each other.

AIM · Identities

Who may go where?

The focus is on people and their identity data across systems. Authoritative data sources, data quality and responsibilities are part of the planning.

WinGuard · Events

What is happening right now?

WinGuard brings events and technical context together for handling in the control room. Together with AIM, the control room can block a badge directly during an event.

03 What AIM does

Less upkeep. More visibility.

Six reasons why companies with several access control systems consider AIM. Summarised from Advancis documentation.

Keep existing systems

The existing access control infrastructure stays in operation. Consistent processes and central data management are added, even with several manufacturers.

Change once

User and group data, card formats and card IDs are synchronised. Changes happen in one system instead of many.

Better overview

The web interface shows the synchronisation status of all systems. Have former employees’ rights really been removed everywhere? The answer is there.

One card for several systems

When card data and formats are in sync, one badge is enough for all connected systems, provided cards and readers support it.

Mobile credentials

With the AIM app, mobile access credentials from different manufacturers can be used and managed consistently.

Check and block with precision

Filter centrally by permission groups, for example to check rights for high-security areas proactively, and block a card directly.

Rights follow the person

Joiner, mover, leaver

AIM grants rights when someone joins, adjusts them when their role changes and removes them when they leave. Nobody has to update each system individually.

Rules, requests, approvals

Rights based on roles, attributes and policies. Plus approval processes, access requests by employees themselves and regular recertifications.

Fully logged

Every grant and every removal is recorded. That keeps every decision traceable and policy-compliant.

The badge in your pocket.

For cardholders, there is the AIM app for iOS and Android. Scroll through the four things it does in everyday use.

05 Connection & licensing

Openly connected.

AIM supports open protocols such as PLAI and a RESTful API as well as manufacturer-specific interfaces. This allows access control, biometric, identity and visitor management systems from different manufacturers to be connected.

What we clarify first.

An AIM project does not start with the software, but with your data and responsibilities. Then we implement AIM: adapters, synchronisation, tests and handover.

Questions

Questions about AIM.

What is AIM?

AIM, the Advanced Identity Manager by Advancis, integrates several access control, identity and biometric systems into one platform. Its main task: the logical and physical access rights that belong to a person’s role stay in sync across all systems.

Do we have to replace our access control systems?

No. AIM is designed to keep using the existing access control infrastructure and to connect it via adapters and open interfaces.

What is an authoritative data source?

The system that is binding for an identity. That can be Active Directory or Microsoft Entra ID, an HR or ERP system, visitor management, an access control system or AIM itself. From there, people and groups are distributed to all other systems.

Does one card really work for all systems?

If card data and formats are synchronised and the cards and readers in use support it, yes. We check this for your specific card technology.

Does AIM also manage rights in IT systems?

According to Advancis, yes. Besides buildings and security areas, AIM also manages logical groups such as applications, cloud services, servers and drives. Which IT systems can be connected in your case, we clarify before the project.

How are AIM and WinGuard related?

They are two independent products from Advancis. AIM manages identities and access rights, WinGuard handles events in the control room. Used together, a badge can be blocked directly from WinGuard.

The next step

How are your identities organised today?

Briefly describe which access control and IT systems manage people and access rights. We will prepare the conversation technically.
